It Wasn’t Better Before, The Best Is Yet To Come

It wasn't better before, the best is yet to come

It’s easy to imagine why a proverb like it  was better before  became so famous and the reasons writers like Ernesto Sábato took it up in one of their works.

Opposed to the best is yet to come , it arises from this nostalgic view, especially of the elderly, about everything that has happened to them in their life.

However, regretting what we have lost does not allow us to enjoy what we have left to live. Therefore, it was not better before, but, as the great Mafalda would say, the best is yet to come .

We have the wonderful ability to surprise ourselves, something we shouldn’t lose, as if there are always new things to be discovered, known and felt on our skin.

What I want to be successful is my life

We want to be happy at all costs, which very often leads us to make the mistake of forgetting that happiness requires a few tears. In other words, for there to be a rainbow, it must have rained before.

Both are part of nature, happiness and crying complement each other and are equal and obligatory.

We want to have a good life, but we don’t assume that it takes good times and bad times.

In general, we do not accept the fact that this “life” is the one that allows us to live fully and to value all the positive that it offers us, that it is this that stirs us up, shakes us up and pushes us to grow. .

This is why “the best is yet to come”, because mountains, like emotions, are endless until death.

Life begins at 40

Mafalda also said that life begins at 40 (and she was largely right). This is where we have lived long enough to begin to admit that the past sometimes makes us nostalgic.

This is when we understand that the future is illusory because it depends on the present and that this present is the only one that creates what happens: we have the opportunity to continually improve and improve. do not regress.

At forty, we begin to realize that happiness does not depend on someone else and we ask life for what we really deserve: we love ourselves a little more, we are more humble and more consistent in our dreams.

In other words, we understand our limitations and have experienced enough falls to know that there is always better.

Stop settling in and making memories – the best is yet to come

When we pass the stage of adolescence and youth, we have what can be considered a “mania” to relive the moments of the past.

Remembering is more common as you get older, and it’s not negative. What is negative is staying in the past remembering the bad times and forgetting the present.

We cannot forget the present moment of our life because, as we have said, it is only from there that we can establish sufficient principles for tomorrow.

Just as remembering is not bad, neither is dreaming: we need to fabricate dreams that leave us idealistic and alive. However, dreams should not lose us in our own reality.

The best is yet to come from the moment we accept a past which serves as a tool for nourishing ourselves in the present and a future which intrigues us but which keeps us down to earth in the immediate future.

The best is yet to come and  there will always be a glimmer of positivity that can help us grow and not stagnate.
