What Is Difficult Is Not Being A Child, But Being One In A World Of Tired People

What is difficult is not to be a child, but to be one in a world of tired people

What is difficult is not being a child, but being one in a world of people who are tired, busy, impatient and always in a hurry. There are parents, teachers and caregivers who forget one of the most important commitments in the education of a child: that of offering him children’s adventures.

It is such a real problem that sometimes we get worried just because a child is worried, loud, happy, or emotional. There are parents and professionals who don’t want children, they want flower pots.

It is normal for a child to run, fly, shout, experiment and make his environment an amusement park. It is normal for a child, who is also small, to show himself as he is and not as adults want him to be.

But to get that, you have to understand two basic things:

  • Movement is not a disease: we want to master what neither nature nor society can master.
  • We are doing our children a great service if we let them be bored and avoid over-stimulation.

Diseases? Medicines for children? Why ?

While all the rage in the school and health arena, the existence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is questionable, at least in the terms in which it is defined. Today, we consider it a drawer where we store and where we accumulate multiple cases ranging from neurological problems to behavioral problems through the problems of lack of resources and capacities to manage their environment well.

The statistics are astounding. According to data from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV-TR (DSM-IV TR), the prevalence of ADHD in children is 3 to 7 cases in 100. What is worrying is that the biological hypothesis that is supposed to corroborate this data is simply this, and it is tested with trial-and-error testing with reasoning that begins with “it looks like this is happening because…”.

During this time, we overmedicalize the children in our environment because they have disruptive behaviors, because they are not paying attention and they appear as if they are not thinking when they are doing something. It is a delicate subject, so you have to be very careful and responsible, consult good psychiatrists and child psychologists.

If we start from this base, it should be known that THERE IS NO CLINICAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINATION WHICH OBJECTIVELY DETERMINES THE EXISTENCE OF ADHD. Reviews are performed based on impressions and runs of multiple tests. Depending on the timing and subjective impression of the tests, the diagnosis is determined. Worrisome, right?

Do not forget that we give amphetamines, antipsychotics and anxiolytics to children! This can have harmful consequences on their neurological development. We don’t know the repercussions of these treatments, let alone when they are taken to excess. This treatment reduces the symptoms but does not in any way reduce the changes felt.

Why maintain this then? The reason is surely economic, because the pharmaceutical industry handles thousands of millions thanks to the pharmacological treatment directed at the child. On the other hand, it is the philosophy of “better than nothing”. The self-betrayal of the happiness pill is a common factor in many pathologies.

In addition to the labels and diagnoses, which are totally questionable, we must put an end to these practices and realize that it is often the adults who are sick and whose main problem is the mismanagement of educational policies and schools.

More and more specialists are realizing this and we must stop parents and professionals who need to put an ADHD label on their children’s problems. This is particularly felt in children, who are not able to let go and give free rein to their abilities.

As Marino Pérez Álvarez, a specialist in Clinical Psychology and professor at the University of Oviedo in Spain, says, ADHD is a label for problematic behaviors in children, and has no solid neurological scientific basis. It is only an unfortunate label that encompasses issues and aspects that do not fit into a pattern of normality.

” He does not exist. ADHD is a diagnosis that lacks clinical entity, and the treatment, far from being a real treatment, is in fact doping, ” says the doctor. The idea of neurochemical imbalance as the cause of different problems has spread but it is not really known if it is a cause or a consequence. That neurochemical imbalances arise because of relationships with those around them.

That is, the correct question is: is ADHD science or ideology? You have to be critical and take a look at this world which is obsessed with “cerebro-centrism” and which looks for the material causes of everything without thinking about what can be a cause and what can be a consequence. Maybe we should pay more attention to how we build society and what the real “scientific evidence” is.

Starting from this basis, we need to take stock of the needs and strengths of each child and adult who may be diagnosed. Approaching this on an individual basis will assume a healthier society and children with higher well-being. So, we must start self-criticism now.
